Hello from Caledonia -- The "Wild
Turkey Capital" of Minnesota.
Come visit us and the whole family will enjoy
the many things Caledonia has to offer. Caledonia has a historic
past and scenic views, and is a destination in itself with diverse
activities, abundant lodging, fine dining and with its hospitality
second to none, you will soon feel like family.
There is plenty to do all year round, with
Beaver Creek State Park only a few miles west, the Mississippi River
only a rock skip down the road to the east, fishing, hunting, cycling
and exploring the scenic valleys surrounded by "the mountains
of Minnesota". Tired of the rat race? Relax and
enjoy our rural lifestyle. A traffic jam here means there
are five cars lined up at the light!
Caledonia has much to offer for a weekend get-away or that
week away from the office. Come see what you have been missing;
make plans to visit us soon; you will be glad that you did. To get
to this very beautiful part of the world, look at the Minnesota
Map in the far S.E. corner of the State. Two major highways come
together here, State Hwy 76 which intersects with I-90, and
State Hwy 44. The Houston County Airport is located
just south on Hwy 76 and the LaCrosse, Wisconsin airport, just 30
miles away, has you connected with the rest of the world.
This area also boasts the only National Scenic Byway that parallels
I-90 so travelers can enjoy the scenic 88 mile stretch of State
Highway 16 from La Cresent to Dexter without any large detour.
Hidden down in the corner of Minnesota you will travel down a scenic
road to the little community of Freeburg. Here time has stood still
and there is evidence of her springing back to life. From the oldest
unmodified Catholic Church in the Winona Diocese (1886) to a one
room school house. Historic Little Miami (1938) supper club type
of restaurant fills it tables with dinners regularly from customers
who live sixty or more miles away. The Freeburg locals are friendly
people which you can sit around a bar in the middle of nowhere and
have conversations with like we've known
you forever. The Freeburg area is loaded with wild turkey, deer,
eagles, and Rainbow Trout in Crooked Creek stream.
